With barely over a week to go before Ryan Reynolds treats audiences to his portrayal of Wade Wilson (at the time of writing this), excitement levels are high – and for good reason....

Perhaps one of the most enduring truths about Hollywood and filmmaking in general is how hard it is to get a film made. Of course, any struggling filmmaker can tell you this much. But when employed, successful and otherwise well known filmmakers can’t even get their work made, the difficult realities of movie making become that much more apparent. Case in point: screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The duo behind Zombieland also wrote the script for Deadpool, a movie that was notoriously stuck in development hell for a long time as 20th Century Fox nervously tried to decide if an irreverent, R-rated, fourth wall-breaking ultra-violent superhero was worth the risk - though box office predictions now suggest he will be....

Newly-released concept art for Deadpool 2 shows an earlier design for Cable’s cybernetic arm, which featured glowing red lights underneath the metal. Though the design didn’t end up being used in the movie, it’s a cool look at an alternative take on Cable’s powerful metal appendage. Unlike most cyborgs, Cable’s arm isn’t the result of replacing a missing limb with a mechanical replacement or deliberately “upgrading” his body. The character actually has a techno-organic virus that is gradually turning his body into a machine....

Josh Brolin’s casting as Cable in Deadpool 2 has certainly got fans buzzing. The announcement came after weeks and weeks of hearing all kinds of possible names, from Russell Crowe to Pierce Brosnan, from David Harbour to Stephen Lang. Not long before the official word dropped, Michael Shannon was considered the frontrunner for the role, which made Brolin’s casting seem to come out of nowhere. After all, he already has a Marvel character, though with Deadpool not considered part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his role as Thanos won’t have any impact on Cable....

Setting Up X-Force Fox’s future with X-Men is up in the air thanks to the looming Disney deal, but one thing we do know is that X-Force is still definitely happening. The sequel/spinoff will film later this year and see Reynolds and Brolin return as their respective mutant characters. Beetz is also expected to appear again as Domino. If the briefly-seen ensemble that included Terry Crews is part of the set-up for Deadpool’s actual future team, then this cameo could also be a way of introducing an X-Force character....

As the Watchmen prepare to return to DC in a big way with the Doomsday Clock arc, 0ne half of the original Watchmen creative team says he won’t be picking up a copy, as Dave Gibbons shuns DC’s latest crossover.
