Bachelor in Paradise contestant Derek Peth has left the show following yet another blowup with John Paul Jones. Another huge fight erupts between the two contestants.

Fans were first introduced to Peth on JoJo’s season of The Bachelorette in 2016, then he graced everyone with his presence on Bachelor in Paradise season 4 in 2017, at the end of which he became engaged to contestant Taylor Nolan. The engagement didn’t last though which is how viewers found Peth back on their screens for the current season of Bachelor in Paradise. Before getting involved in drama with John Paul Jones and Tayshia Adams, Peth found himself in a love triangle with contestant Demi Burnett and her girlfriend from home - Kristian Haggerty. Haggerty was brought on to the beach by the show’s producers, and in the end, Demi chose Haggerty over Peth. Peth was widely praised for how maturely he handled the situation, so much so that many fans thought his behavior put him in the running to be the next Bachelor. Following his breakup with Demi, Peth was interested in coupling up with Adams, and found himself in another love triangle. Jones and Peth got into an argument during last week’s episode of Bachelor in Paradise while attending Chris Randone and Krystal Neilsen’s wedding, and though it seemed like things might’ve been resolved then, that was far from the case.

Monday night’s episode of Bachelor in Paradise (via People) ended in Peth’s departure, which no one was expecting, but how did we get there? During the episode, Peth approached Jones in order to “seek some understanding as to where this all started” in regards to the Jones-Peth-Adams love triangle. There was added confusion for everyone because Jones is currently coupled up with Haley Ferguson, who said she wasn’t even aware Jones had strong feelings for Adams, so his reaction seemed out of the blue to Ferguson. Jones continued to insist to Peth that he (Jones) was the right choice for Adams, to which Peth replied, “She gets to decide that, not you.” At no point did either men speak with Adams about the situation during that fight, and Adams said to the camera that it was “exhausting” and “very frustrating.”

The following morning, Adams took the opportunity to speak to both men separately. After breaking things off with Jones, she went to speak with Peth, which was the beginning of the end. Adams told Peth that she didn’t think she’d be able to “get there” with him, in regards to where his feelings for her were at. Adams continued to reassure a confused Peth that she didn’t think there was anything he could’ve done better, but Peth still said he was filled with “sadness” and “self-loathing” which is when he made the decision to speak to the cast. Upon calling everyone together, Peth announced he would be leaving the show on his accord, much to the shock of his fellow cast members. He addressed the cast saying, “I thank all of you guys for the friendships that I’ve built here, but unfortunately this time for me that’s all I’ve been able to build” and with that - Peth exited the show.

Despite Peth leaving the show, Adams says she is still unsure how she feels about Jones, and it’s unclear if Adams will find love in paradise. She could give her rose to Jones, or maybe to newcomer Matt Donald who seemed to have sparked Adams’ interest. Adams may even choose to return to the still-single Blake Horstmann, who has seen his fair share of drama on this season of Bachelor in Paradise as well. Though there are a few solid, happily in love couples like Hannah Godwin and Dylan Barbour, there are still plenty of single people left to stir up drama for the rest of the season.
