Sony has unveiled a new limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro console that will come bundled with Death Stranding, and it looks just as weird as the game does. First announced at E3 in 2016, shortly after Hideo Kojima left Konami and formed Kojima Productions, the game has been the subject of much speculation and confusion over the past few years, but players will soon be able to find out just what exactly Death Stranding is about when the game finally releases this November.

Kojima has stated multiple times now Death Stranding is a brand new type of game, something he classifies as “strand gameplay.” While it’s already known main character Sam (portrayed by The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus) will punch the player in the face if they stare at his genitals for too long and that the game provides a very-easy mode that is almost entirely cutscenes, it’s almost a certainty that there are still many secrets about the title which have yet to be revealed.

One such secret Kojima has been keeping quiet is the existence of the limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro Death Stranding console, which was announced today during Sony’s 2019 State of Play video. The console is almost entirely white, save for a black strip which wraps around the console’s waist and the now-trademark dripping black handprints that have been sparking players’ curiosity ever since the game’s first trailer was released.

An interesting inclusion in this new PS4 Pro bundle is the controller, which is a stark industrial orange that most likely relates to the color of the pod-like containers for bridge babies in Death Stranding. The logo for the game appears twice, once on the front of the console and then again etched into the PlayStation 4 controller’s touch pad, but thankfully the console, which Sony has stated is the 1TB version, appears to lack the phrase “A game by Hideo Kojima.”

Death Stranding is surely to be one of the most scrutinized pieces of media ever released when it hits store shelves on November 8th. The former Metal Gear Solid auteur has made considerable claims about his upcoming first project away from Konami, and while some fans are happy to follow Kojima wherever he wants to take them many others are becoming somewhat skeptical about his ability to revolutionize the gaming landscape. Players will have to wait a few more months to find out whether Death Stranding is truly the masterpiece many are hoping for or, alternatively, whether we’re all in for a situation reminiscent of John Romero’s Daikatana.
