Death Stranding has a fast travel system that makes exploring the apocalyptic United States much simpler. Here’s how to Unlock and Utilize Fast Travel in the United Cities. Death Stranding is a unique case in the world of gaming. Coming from the mind of the creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Hideo Kojima, this is a genre beginning entry into his long library of creative games. No game in the world plays like Death Stranding, as players take control of Sam Porter Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, in a world taken controlled by BTs (Beached Things). Similar to Metal Gear Solid, Death Stranding is the first in its genre of game, as Metal Gear Solid was the game the defined what it meant to be a stealth video game. After being removed from Konami, Kojima was picked up by Sony and was provided an opportunity to create a brand new game exclusively for their Playstation 4 console with his own studio. What came out of that deal was Death Stranding. This guide will teach players how to fast travel around this barren version of the United States.
Sam Porter Bridges is assigned with the duty to reconnect all the major cities in the United States so they can have a chance at survival. The majority of the gameplay in Death Stranding is delivering packages by walking from post to post. It’s a strange experience at first, but as the player dives deeper into the world, more enemies and threats begin to rise to stop Sam. The game requires a level of management never seen in a game before, as players literally control each of Sam’s hand using the trigger buttons to hold onto packages. If the player lets go of the triggers, Sam will drop the package. Also, Sam’s weight, balance, and run speed are affected by how many packages Sam is currently holding. Players can score higher in rank if they can deliver packages with minimal damage. Now, to unlock the fast travel feature, players must wait until Chapter 3 of the game.
How To Unlock Fast Travel in Death Stranding
In Chapter 3, Sam will land in the Central Region. Once arriving, a few cutscenes will play and the game will let Sam know that he now has the ability to perform a Fragile Jump. A Fragile Jump is a term for fast travel in this game. It’s recommended to head into the Central Region area as quickly as possible in Chapter 3 as getting the Fragile Jump makes it much easier to explore the rest of the area. In order to use fast travel, go into the Private Room and search for Fragile’s umbrella on the wall. Interact with it to bring up the fast travel menu. A list will open up with all the locations that Sam can Fragile Jump to.
How To Utilize Fast Travel in Death Stranding
Similar to many open-world titles, Sam is only allowed to fast travel to locations he’s already been to. This is a great resource if players wish to go back to earlier points in the game and complete side quest they initially missed. Although, there are a few limitations with fast traveling in this game. For starters, Sam cannot travel with packages using Fragile Jump. That would completely defeat the purpose of delivering packages in the first place. Secondly, in order the travel to a set location, this location much have a private room to be activated. Plenty of the major buildings in the game act as points for fast travel. Although, there’s another feature in the game that allows players to travel wherever they would like and that’s properly using Safe Houses.
Fast Traveling To Safe Houses in Death Stranding
There’s an in-game tutorial that teaches how to build Safe Houses near the Weather Station to help out new players. Players will need to complete Episode 3 Order No. 27 in order to unlock the ability to build Safe Houses. In this mission, players are tasked with delivering the chiralium Guage to the weather station. To make this trip easier, bring a ladder, a power skeleton, and Blood Bags. Safe Houses are like private rooms but players can build them and set them anywhere on the map. The bed can help heal Sam’s health. The shower and toilet are used for collecting liquid samples from Sam that can be used for survival actions and ammo materials. Shelves contain a variety of Sam’s weapons like grenades and assault rifles. The table and figure display are just decorative. Lastly, the Terminal will allow Sam to access of his Order Requests, Data Archives, Mail, Bridge Link, Music Player, and even allows the player to change the room color. This can act as a point of fast traveling and can be used if players have a need to reach somewhere specific for a quest or for materials. To build a Safe House, here are the required materials.
- PCC Lv. 2 Chiral Crystals (300 cg) Special Alloys (2400 fg)
This area acts as a portable private room with all of its basic features. Set it up where the player would like and use it to Sam’s advantage.
Death Stranding is unlike any other game. While walking through the wastelands, beautiful orchestral music takes over the stereo and the camera pans back to get a grander few of the empty but gorgeous wastelands. This game plays more like a movie than an actual video game. It’s one of those titles that can pull the player into its world with no problem. Hideo Kojima was given the freedom to create the art he’s always wanted without the restraints of corporate interruption. When Kojima was removed from Konami, that resonated with fans of his work who wanted him to thrive and create on his own regards. Death Stranding stands as a symbol of fighting back against an oppressive superior and to craft without outside influences tainting it and it shows as Death Stranding is unlike any other game to ever exist. The game was a success and showed the world that Hideo Kojima still has what it takes to create a masterpiece.
