Death Stranding is coming to PC after all, as developer Kojima Productions will be teaming up with publisher 505 Games to bring the game to the platform in summer 2020. Death Stranding has had a curious relationship with PS4 exclusivity up until this point, having first been announced as a PS4 and PC title way back in 2015 before flirting with being available only on Sony’s flagship device on and off again.

Once the game was de-listed as a PS4 exclusive on Sony’s official websites, however, fans became much more confident that Hideo Kojima’s new vision for gaming would eventually find its way to PCs. Death Stranding is one of the most-anticipated games of 2019 and has been in the works for around four years, giving it plenty of development time - alongside a lengthy hype period for fans that has led many to assume it will be a revolutionary release. Kojima hasn’t been afraid to lean into that excitement, either, suggesting that Death Stranding is an entirely new video game genre while many of those who have gone hands-on with the title have already proclaimed it as something special.

505 Games announced that it would be publishing Death Stranding for PC earlier today, releasing a statement that included a reaffirmation that the console version of Death Stranding would remain exclusive to Sony Interactive Entertainment and the PlayStation 4. 505 Games had little to share besides the reveal of Death Stranding on PC and a vague release date of summer 2020, making Death Stranding something of a timed PS4 exclusive anyways. The company also promised more details about the PC version of Death Stranding in the near future, while 505 Games co-founder and CEO Raffi Galante shared his excitement on being involved:

PC gamers will have the added benefit of being able to wait and see how Death Stranding performs on PS4 once it releases on November 8. The game is still something of an enigma to many, and while gameplay reveals have made it look exciting and unique, that doesn’t guarantee success in its own right. With that said, though, the game is being developed by a legend of the industry and has looked positively gorgeous in each of its reveals - it would be surprising if Death Stranding didn’t end up on people’s shortlists for holiday purchases at the very least, and game of the year seems very attainable.

“We are extremely excited and honored to be working with the supremely talented team at Kojima Productions and to bring Death Stranding to PC gamers around the world. Death Stranding will take gamers through a completely original experience that will delight PC gamers everywhere.”

While Death Stranding can no longer claim to be the most exciting PS4 exclusive left for 2019, it’s still one of the most exciting game releases of this console generation. Being able to bring that experience and excitement to the PC platform is a major boon for both Kojima Productions and 505 Games and, if all goes well, Death Stranding may get to bring the excitement and anticipation its brought to PS4 fans this fall to another demographic next summer.
