When it comes to Deadpool, it seems one good reboot deserves another! Fans already knew that the writing and art team would be changing for the main Deadpool comic, but Marvel has now confirmed that the hand-off will also be a reboot, relaunching the series with Deadpool #1 (making the book’s legacy numbering every bit as crazed as Wade Wilson himself).

Marvel has officially announced that Kelly Thompson and Chris Bachalo will be taking over the ongoing Deadpool series this November. Starting a brand new ongoing series with Issue #1, the released plot synopsis claims Wade Wilson’s next target will be “the King of Monsters, who has claimed a new kingdom for his monstrous subjects…on Staten Island!” Deadpool had better not miss.

With Deadpool #15 ending Skottie Young and Nic Klein’s run on the series, and Dana Schwartz and Reilly Brown’s Deadpool Annual #1 releasing on August 21st, the team of Thompson and Bachalo will be starting fresh. Even fresher than expected, with Deadpool #1 as opposed to Deadpool #16. Fans can take a look at the first cover art for the new series below:

The decision to restart the series is sure to be seen as a curious one, considering Skottie Young and Nic Klein delivered Deadpool #1 as part of Marvel’s ‘Fresh Start’ in 2018, with just fifteen issues released before this new, unexplained restart. Looking back at Wade Wilson’s last decade of comic relaunches–Deadpool #1 (Vol. 2) coming in 2008, Deadpool #1 (Vol. 3) in 2013, Deadpool #1 (Vol. 4) in 2015, Deadpool #1 (Vol. 5) in 2018, and now Deadpool #1 (Vol. 6) coming in 2019–many will wonder just what is going on with what should be (and often is) one of Marvel’s best-selling stars.

Fortunately, fans won’t be forced to go without Wade Wilson in the intervening months, as he’ll be swept up in the nightmarish attacks of Carnage now under way, with Absolute Carnage vs. Deadpool #1-3 beginning on August 21st from Frank Tieri and Marcelo Ferreira. With a new chapter of Deadpool’s life coming, take a look at the details and plot synopsis for Deadpool #1 below:

  • DEADPOOL #1 Written by KELLY THOMPSON Art by CHRIS BACHALO Cover by CHRIS BACHALO Deadpool’s newest mercenary job has him going after the King of Monsters, who has claimed a new kingdom for his monstrous subjects…on Staten Island! But you know what they say, when you come at the king, you better not miss! The Merc with a Mouth finds himself neck deep in political intrigue, monster law, and a monster hunter out for blood! It’s like The Crown but with even more swords and monsters! Can Deadpool’s smooth charisma and deft diplomacy allow him to keep his head, or will he be royally screwed?

Deadpool #1 from Kelly Thompson and Chris Bachalo will be arriving at your local comic book shop this November. In the meantime, don’t miss out on Deadpool Annual #1 coming on August 21st, or the beginning of Wade’s symbiote showdown in Absolute Carnage #1 also arriving on August 21st.
