Tim Miller’s Deadpool film was stuck in development for many years until leaked test footage - released on the heels of Comic-Con International in San Diego in 2014 - garnered enough positive response that 20th Century Fox finally gave the superhero feature a green light. Shortly afterward, Ryan Reynold signed on to return as Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool for the film that had a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland). This year during SDCC, the movie’s panel released the first trailer for Deadpool to widely positive responses from fans.

Now, with less than two months until Deadpool is finally released in theaters, Fox has begun a massive marketing push. Earlier this month, the film ran a “12 Days of Deadpool” promotion during which new posters, new TV spots, and a brand new trailer were released. Now, even more new images have been released in recent days to coincide with the debut of Empire’s cover feature on the Merc with a Mouth.

CBM released some low-res pictures of pages from the Empire feature on Deadpool, including photos of the titular hero dancing, Reynolds and Miller behind the scenes, and T.J. Miller as Wade’s best friend Weasel. The images also feature a comic-style intro urging fans to “revel in the glory that is my cinematic return! Mouth: Unsewn. Mind: Unhinged.”

These images will be included in the Empire Deadpool feature alongside those officially released of Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and Angel Dust (Gina Carano). Additionally, other newly released images feature Wade Wilson before undergoing the process to become Deadpool and the Merc with a Mouth facing off against the film’s main antagonist, Ajax (Ed Skrein). Filling out the rest of the movie’s main cast are Morena Baccarin as Wade’s best girl Vanessa Carlysle, Stefan Kapicic as X-Men member Colossus, and Leslie Uggams as Wade’s friend Blind Al.

Amid all the other superhero films set to be released in 2016 - including fellow X-Men universe film, X-Men: Apocalypse, and the highly anticipated Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War - Deadpool is a bit different. For one, the film will have an R-rating unlike most of its peers, and Miller himself has said Deadpool is “shockingly different from most Marvel” heroes. Setting the character apart is his trademark humor and violence, both of which are demonstrated in these new images from Empire.

Of course, it’s too early to say whether or not the final Deadpool film will live up to fan expectations - especially since fans have had many years to think about what their perfect Merc with a Mouth movie would look like. But, all the marketing materials from Deadpool have seemed to capture the right tone and humor of Wade, offering fans hope that the feature will turn out to be everything they hoped it would be - plus a great superhero flick on top of it.
