Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds took to social media to congratulate Avengers: Infinity War on blowing up the box office this weekend. Going into the weekend, projections had Avengers: Infinity War falling short of the records for biggest domestic and worldwide opening. But now that the actual numbers are in, it turns out the projections were off.

As a matter of fact, Avengers: Infinity War turned out to be bigger than anyone could ever have predicted. The box office tally is in and Infinity War now holds the record for biggest three-day North American opening with $250 million, eclipsing Star Wars: The Force Awakens which opened with $247 million. And worldwide, the film opened to a jaw-dropping $630 million, blowing by the previous record-holder Fate of the Furious ($541 million). The film managed this monster global number even though it doesn’t open in China until May 11th.

Needless to say, the world has stood up and taken notice of Avengers: Infinity War and its monster opening. Among those sending congratulations to the Avengers team today is Deadpool himself Ryan Reynolds. The actor took to social media to offer up a humorous reminder of Deadpool’s own rejection from The Avengers in the form of a letter from Tony Stark. But Reynolds also put aside the humor to offer heartfelt congrats to his MCU cousins. See Reynolds’ post below:

Reynolds himself will soon hit screens again with Deadpool 2, and he’s certainly hoping some of that Marvel Universe momentum helps carry his movie to a huge tally. In fact, Deadpool 2 already is projected to open bigger than the first movie did in 2016 when it bowed to $152 million. In the film, Deadpool teams up with a new group of heroes called The X-Force, including everyone’s favorite social media sensation Peter W. The X-Force squares off against Cable as played by Josh Brolin - who of course also stars in Avengers: Infinity War as the Mad Titan Thanos.

As for the possibility of Deadpool ever convincing The Avengers to let him join their squad, in superhero land, never say never. With Disney buying out Fox, the possibility certainly increases that Deadpool could find his way into a proper MCU film. Of course Deadpool features a more mature tone than your average Avengers movie, but making the tones match up shouldn’t be a problem if Kevin Feige ever decides to let Deadpool join forces with The Avengers. And even if Deadpool never gets his chance to share the screen with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the gang, he’s got his own pretty good franchise going for himself, which will include an X-Force spinoff movie down the road.
