According to the actor himself, TJ Miller will appear in Deadpool 3 if the studio forces him to attend. Miller has had a rocky career as of late, from charges of sexual abuse (which the actor denies) to reports Miller faked a bomb threat against a woman on a train, to his departure from the widely-watched series Silicon Valley.
Miller, who appeared in both the original Deadpool movie as well as the surprisingly well-received sequel, was rumored to once have a larger role in the latter film, however some news outlets have suggested once news of Miller’s sexual harassment allegations came to light the studio decided it would be better to limit the amount of time Miller’s character, named Weasel, appeared on screen. Now, it looks like Miller may just be done with the entire franchise, although his contract definitely isn’t.
As reported by HeroicHollywood, TJ Miller recently was interviewed on Adam Carolla’s podcast, The Adam Carolla Show, and asked about the future of the Deadpool franchise. Since Disney has purchased Marvel Studios, many fans have wondered if the notoriously family-friendly company would allow the foul-mouthed series to continue, but it appears like Miller is worried about something else entirely. Speaking to Carolla, he said “I’d almost would rather that they didn’t…Deadpool 2, we knocked it out of the park.” He continued, saying, “What if Deadpool 3 is… eh?”
During the interview, Miller pointed out other instances where continuous sequels ruined otherwise quality comedy premises and reputations, fearing a similar outcome for Deadpool if the studios continued to milk the idea without iterating on it. “Of course,” Miller went on to say, “if they want me to do a Deadpool 3, I’m going to. I’m under contract.” At the time of this writing, there has been no official word from either Marvel or Disney about the possibility of a third Deadpool film in the near future.
The original Deadpool was released in 2016, and the sequel came out two years later. With none of the main actors confirming a third entry, it’s unlikely the theoretical Deadpool 3 will follow suit and release in 2020, but stranger things have happened in the past. The fact Deadpool came to exist at all is one of the strangest tales in superhero cinema, with star Ryan Reynolds being so unhappy with the character’s X-Men portrayal he single-handedly lobbied both Fox and Marvel relentlessly until the film was made a reality, with Reynolds reportedly even leaking the trailer online himself in order to drum up publicity. Whether or not the films will continue to Deadpool 3 is anyone’s guess, but apparently TJ Miller would rather they end on the high note that was last Christmas’ Once Upon a Deadpool.
