Deadpool 2 director David Leitch wants to see Deadpool and Captain America team up on the big screen. Fox is entering the final push to market the sequel to Deadpool. After releasing a brand new trailer and with Avengers: Infinity War just a week away, it won’t be long before Deadpool 2 is the superhero flick everyone can’t wait to see. Just as he did in the first movie, Deadpool will poke plenty of fun at the superhero genre, and isn’t slowing down with shots at the DCEU or Josh Brolin’s other Marvel role.

But, this could be the last time audiences see Deadpool in this current form. Thanks to a looming deal that would see Disney acquire Fox, next summer could bring the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU. If that happens, Disney’s CEO promises they’ll keep making Deadpool movies, and the director of the sequel has an idea for which MCU character Ryan Reynolds should interact with first.

In an interview with Fandango, director David Leitch was asked to share his thoughts on the future of Deadpool should the Disney deal be approved. He understands the fun that could be found with bringing the Merc with a Mouth into the MCU, and wants to see him meet up with Captain America.

As fun as it could be to see Reynolds and Chris Evans share the screen as their superhero selves, it could be too late to make it happen. Evans has indicated he’s stepping away from the MCU after Avengers 4, which would make such a crossover extremely unlikely. That said, no one knows how Infinity War ends, let alone Avengers 4, so there will continue to be a possibility until proven otherwise.

I think it’ll be exciting for fans. What I like about Deadpool is I think that the more you can put Deadpool in a box, the more he wants to push outside of it. Pairing him with people that you think would confine him, it’s a challenge to be irreverent, and it’s a challenge to keep the same sort of subversive nature. I think there’s something interesting about that. I don’t know. Who would he pair with? Captain America, that’d be pretty funny. I don’t know. There are definitely some people. I mean, I’m a fan of that sort of whole Marvel universe. I think you could just throw a dart at a board and put Deadpool next to them, and it would be funny.

If Cap does survive a fight with Thanos, it would undoubtedly be fun to see Marvel’s boy scout and foul-mouthed heroes together. Evans isn’t above making fun of himself, as evident with his cameo in Thor: The Dark World, and there’s no doubt Deadpool wouldn’t agree with his methods. Not only that, but Cap has already made his disdain for profanity known in Avengers: Age of Ultron, so such a crossover would certainly require him to yell “Language!” at least once more.

Even though Leitch name dropped Captain America, he also believes there’s fun to be had with just about every character in the MCU. It would certainly be fun to see Deadpool interact with a number of MCU heroes, and he could get that chance in a few years. Whether or not Reynolds and Evans get to remains to be seen, but if Deadpool is brought into the MCU, there’s no telling just how many different heroes he’ll meet.
