DC TV had a pretty big 2019 with many shows returning, debuting and continuing with their ongoing seasons from fall 2018. From The CW with all of its Arrowverse shows, DC Universe with their original programming to FOX and SYFY’s respective products, DC TV has delivered a lot in 2019. As fans go into 2020, there will be more adventures coming up from new and old favorites on the respective platforms. However, it is still time to look at what came in 2019 at some of DC TV’s finest seasons that completed their seasons within that year.

With so much DC TV content available, it’s impossible to add every single season from 2019 onto the list. Having said that, these are the 10 best 2019 seasons for DC TV, ranked. Disclaimer: some of these seasons only recently finished their runs and spoilers will be included, so read at your own risk if you haven’t caught up with some of these shows.

Supergirl Season 4

The fourth season of Supergirl became one of the most topical seasons of the show’s run. With the Children of Liberty saga in full motion, it became a very political-themed season for the Girl of Steel.

While that arc can be discussed as its own thing, the strengths of season 4 came heavily with character-driven stories. From new debuting characters like Nia Nal a.k.a. Dreamer (Nicole Maines), Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai), to Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer), there was a lot of new blood felt in this season. Brainiac 5 (Jesse Rath) also got to enjoy his first season as a series regular after debuting in season 3. With the addition of the Red Daughter storyline, it was a packed season for the Melissa Benoist-led series.

Legends of Tomorrow Season 4

The fourth season of the time-traveling Legends of Tomorrow became the show’s most magical season of all time. That should be seen as a literal statement as John Constantine (Matt Ryan) starred as a series regular for the first time in an Arrowverse series. His presence was a welcomed layer as it still felt like an ensemble series rather than turn it into the Constantine hour every week.

Even if his addition to the show did add a lot more of supernatural adventures for the team to tackle, it was something to appreciate.

Arrow Season 7

The seventh year of Arrow became one of the most different seasons of all time. With new leadership behind the scenes in the form of showrunner Beth Schwartz, the Green Arrow drama was in for some changes.

The biggest one was the storytelling device through flashforwards, giving viewers a look into Star City’s future by introducing the next generation of Team Arrow. It was also a different season right at the start with the leading hero spending several episodes in prison.

Titans Season 2

While it may have had a questionable season finale, the second season of Titans became a step-up for the DC Universe drama. Season 2 fleshed out the Teen Titans live-action series by introducing more heroes and villains from the lore. While there were a lot of storylines packed into season 2, it still allowed this particular DC show to flesh out its world even more. It also finally saw Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) finally suit-up as Nightwing, leaving his days as Robin fully behind.

Even if the finale didn’t do him justice, Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke’s (Esai Morales) debut in season 2 was still incredibly enjoyable.

The Flash Season 5

Season 5 of The Flash was all about legacy and time travel as Nora West-Allen a.k.a. XS (Jessica Parker Kennedy) became one of the focus points. As Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) tried to grasp the concept of them one day having a daughter, it became a very family-driven season thanks to Nora as well as the big bad of the season.

While Cicada (both versions) were lackluster as the main antagonist, in the end, it was still a solid season for the heroes as well as a strong way to unleash the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh) into the Arrowverse again.

Gotham Season 5

The fifth and final season of FOX’s Batman prequel series Gotham had a strong run from start to finish. Drawing inspiration from a few famous Batman comics, season 5 felt big episode after episode. It became one of the final steps that Bruce (David Mazouz) had to go through before being able to become the famous Caped Crusader.

For the Gotham universe as a whole, it came with a lot of twists and turns for the players, both good and evil, as they faced their biggest challenge yet.

Young Justice Season 3

DC Universe became beloved for being the platform to resurrect the fan-favorite series Young Justice as it kicked off its third season. With a 26-episode order, the writers had a lot that they were able to do within one season. Just like the previous two seasons, Young Justice: Outsiders kept the great quality that the series became known for, making it more than just your average children’s cartoon.

Tackling a major meta-human arc while also fleshing out the established group of characters, this season was just a constant reminder for hardcore fans why the show became so beloved.

Black Lightning Season 2

Season 2 of Black Lightning continued the great path that the first season had started with. While it did began to explore other stories and new characters, it still kept the primary focus on the principal cast.

From the Pierce family all becoming heroes, with or without costumes/powers, to Tobias Whale (Marvin Jones III), the character-driven arcs are what made the second season even better than the first one.

Doom Patrol Season 1

One of the new DC TV shows of 2019 was Doom Patrol that after its first episode had captured a major fanbase instantly. Taking some of the more obscure DC characters, the first season made these characters into icons within the DC realm.

From the perfect balance of hysterical comedy to intense drama, season 1 did a stellar job in making sure to establish and develop each and one of these characters, both heroes and villains.

Krypton Season 2

While it sadly became the final season, Krypton season 2 is the winner of DC TV in 2019. Continuing to defy expectations of the DC Universe, the second season of the Superman prequel proceeded with playing around with the canon and do its own thing. As it fleshed out more of the heroes’ character arcs, it also did a perfect job with exploring the many villains that were running around.

While it ended on a massive cliffhanger that set up a game-changing season 3, fans will sadly never get to see it as SYFY canceled it not too long after the finale. But it still doesn’t change the fact that Krypton was the best DC TV season of 2019 with its refreshing storytelling.
