The hit DCeased comic series put the greatest heroes of the DC Universe through an undead nightmare of heartbreak and horror. But as the heroes fell… how did the villains fare against the zombie apocalypse? That question will now be answered, thanks to the newly revealed DCeased: Unkillables beginning in February of 2020.

There’s a good chance readers of DCeased were too enthralled watching Batman die and pass on the mantle, or seeing Hal Jordan killed by the next Green Lantern to wonder whose fate they weren’t seeing play out. But once the question is raised – would Jason Todd, Deathstroke, or other brutal, unsentimental antiheroes have better odds? – it’s hard to resist the curiosity. There was never any doubt that DCeased’s instant sales success would warrant some kind of sequel, but few probably guessed that a follow-up would be announced so soon. The door is still left open for a sequel, but until then, February begins the untold, three-part story of the Unkillables villains tossed into the DCeased horror show.

Along with the news comes the first variant covers for the Unkillables miniseries, continuing the horror movie homages. The first being Yasmine Putri’s It: Chapter 2 variant for DCeased: Unkillables #1, followed by Ben Oliver’s Full Metal Jacket tribute for the second issue, channeling the Red Hood’s origin story into a new, zombie-slaying mantra. Take a look:

The official news comes after days of writer Tom Taylor cryptically teasing the Unkillables with partially obscured cover artwork, paired with what appears to be lines of dialogue from the coming issues. Their true meaning will be saved for the actual story, but in the meantime, check out the dialogue below:

The coming months will be far less lacking in DC zombie excitement than fans of DCeased expected, with the DCeased hardcover collection arriving on November 20th, and the follow-up miniseries continuing the terror just two months later. We’ll leave the question of which villains would be the first and last to die to the fans, but if the first six issues are anything to go by, readers will never be able to guess what this team has in store.

“We lost so much we didn’t think there was anything else to lose.”

“Don’t worry. We’re not gonna leave them like this.”

“Mourn later. Move now.”

“Batman is… was terrible at expressing anything with words.”
