DC Universe’s Harley Quinn is renewed for season 2, with new episodes set to be released in less than two months. Premiering on DC Universe in November 2019, the adult animated series was developed by the trio of Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey. Consisting of 13 episodes, the first season boasts an impressive cast. Kaley Cuoco voices the title character, and The Big Bang Theory star is joined by Jason Alexander, Tony Hale, Giancarlo Esposito, Wanda Sykes, and Alan Tudyk. Each of the notable actors lend their vocal talents to significant figures from the world of DC Comics, coming together to tell the story of a supporting character that is now placed right in the center of the narrative.
Specifically, the DC animated series zeroed in on Harley’s adventures following a break up with the Joker. Receiving help from the likes of Poison Ivy, Clayface, and Doctor Psycho, among others, Harley plans to join the Legion of Doom. This is complicated by Joker’s persistent presence, in addition to Harley’s own indecision about her origin story. Harley Quinn was praised in reviews, which cited the strong voice acting and the fact that the show operated with a proper understanding of what makes Harley Quinn such a beloved character to so many. For viewers who enjoyed the first season, they won’t have to wait too long for a second installment of Harley Quinn.

The news was accompanied by a quick video that highlights how, even though the show is animated, it’s hardly kid-friendly. For a character that debuted outside of comic books, with her first appearance occurring in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992, Harley Quinn has emerged as one of the most instantly recognizable creations associated with DC. Still, especially when compared to the mainstream depictions of Joker - which contain different shades and varying interpretations - Harley Quinn and her origin story remains relatively unexplored. Harley Quinn, and Birds of Prey is doing a lot to help bring the persona to general audiences.
The DC Universe streaming service, launched in 2018, has several other popular titles coming up. Stargirl is expected to make a debut, with proven hits like Titans and Doom Patrol premiering new installments. In the case of Harley Quinn at least, fans just have to hang on a little bit longer to find out what the fallout from season 1 will be.
