The new incarnation of DC’s Freedom Fighters have finally figured out the best way to bring the Nazi occupation of the United States down for good. Now, all they have to do is infiltrate Detroit, Michigan… the most heavily fortified city in the American Reich.

That mission is the biggest risk that the Freedom Fighters have taken to date, but it’s going to be as traumatic as it is difficult for one member. As fans of the series already know, the hero Black Condor is one of the only people to ever escape the slave city of Detroit. His trip back in is going to be his biggest test to date, and our exclusive preview of Freedom Fighters #8 is going back to the start of his story to prepare for what’s sure to be one emotional chapter.

The series has made reference to Black Condor a.k.a Marcus Robbins effectively being born and raised inside of Detroit’s manufacturing machine. But as the team prepares to covertly enter the city–in search of the formula behind the Nazi Reich’s “Plasstic Men” to tip the scales–the preview is finally showing how cruel Marcus’s birth truly was. To DC fans, this alternate version of America, and his new teammates, he is “Marcus”… but to the Nazis who stole him from his parents’ arms, he was only ever ‘Yellow-18.’ Check out the preview pages of Freedom Fighters #8 below:

Once readers are done appreciating the shout-out to Joe Rock (grandson of the famous “Sgt. Rock”), they can appreciate the dedication of the heroes who are, presumably, enduring a truckload full of chickens to penetrate the Nazi defenses. It may be the only moment of levity the issue has to offer, judging by the subject matter. But as grim as the Detroit Factory-City Complex will be, the cover of the issue promises a new beginning starts here. Which means fans won’t want to miss this issue when it arrives on Wednesday.
