Doom Patrol referenced Krypto the Super Dog and the clone version of Superboy from Titans in its most recent episode. This confirms where exactly in the DC Universe timeline the new show takes place.

Krypto and Superboy were originally introduced in Titans’ season 1 finale post-credits scene. The brief stinger, set “Somewhere in Metropolis”, took place inside Cadmus Laboratories - the organization in the comics responsible for creating the clone that would later become known as Superboy and take the name Conner Kent. It saw a naked young man walking through a lab filled with dead or injured scientists, who then stopped to free a dog from cage. The dog’s eyes glowed red as if he was about to use heat vision, before leaving the cage to follow the young man.

Where the story went from there was revealed in Doom Patrol episode 2, “Donkey Patrol”. When Cyborg is scanning several channels in search of crimes, several stories of importance show up on his HUD display, including a father in Metropolis pleading Not Guilty to charges of being responsible for a freeway accident that caused the deaths of five people. His defense was that his car was hit by a naked man with a dog. This would appear to be Superboy and Krypto, causing havoc after escaping Cadmus.

Another story in the same scroll may also hint at the events of Titans, making reference to a confused Brazilian woman with glowing green eyes being connected to a series of deaths in Detroit. Titans had several scenes that took place in Detroit and the amnesiac Kory Anders (aka Starfire) has exotic looks that might be described as Brazilian by someone who didn’t see many details beyond her glowing green eyes. She also killed quite a few people as she was tracking the missing Rachel Roth (aka Raven). Another possibility (suggested by Twitter user nighztwing) is that this might be a reference to Beatriz de Costa - a Brazilian superhero who fought crime with the Justice League in the comics under the names Green Flame, Green Fury, and Fire.

In either case, the hints involving Superboy and Krypto would seem to settle the issue of when the events of Doom Patrol occur relative to the timeline of Titans. This Easter egg shows the eye for detail that has gone into both series and how far the production teams will go for a good joke. This also showcases the commitment that DC Universe has to living up to its name and building an intricate shared reality to match the comics that inspired it.
