Since debuting back in 1940, the Green Lantern has seen many different takes on the character. In celebration of the many heroes to wear the Green Lantern Power Ring, DC Comics is set to release a 100-page anniversary special with talented creators telling different tales featuring the many Green Lanterns.

DC Comics has already previously announced 80th-anniversary celebrations for a number of its heroes and villains. Catwoman, the Joker, and Robin will also get 100-page spectaculars in the coming months. The Green Lantern’s anniversary issue will feature a slew of top creators including Geoff Johns, Sina Grace, Charlotte Fullerton, Darryl Banks, Jeff Lemire, Mike Grell, Ron Marz, Denny O’Neil, Fernando Pasarin, Ivan Reis, Rafa Sandoval, Mariko Tamaki, Peter J, Tomasi, James Tynion IV, Robert Venditti and more.

It seems each comic fan has a different favorite when it comes to heroes who wore the Green Lantern Power Ring - which speaks volumes about the characters. The book will feature stories on all the universe’s most iconic Green Lanterns from the very first Lantern in Alan Scott, as well as fan-favorites Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, Jessica Cruz, and Simon Baz. Sinestro fans, don’t worry, the book will cover some of the bigger Lantern villains as well.

Here’s DC’s solicit on the issue.

The celebration is set to feature eight different variant covers, as well as an incredible cover from Liam Sharp featuring all the Green Lanterns on a single page. Here’s the lineup of variant cover artists and the decade they will cover.

Since the first Green Lantern was introduced in All-American Comics #16 in May 1940 by artist Martin Nodell and writer Bill Finger, the Green Lanterns have been fan-favorite characters with millions of comic book fans. From that first ring-wielding Lantern to the latest, and every strong-willed Super Hero in-between, many have spoken the Green Lantern oath and pledged to defend their home sector from evils of every nature. Now, in 2020, this corps of extraterrestrial space police built up from all alien races and places are celebrating 80 years of keeping the DC universe safe!
