It’s hard to tell who of the cast of The Hills: New Beginnings is the most popular, but thanks to some data scientists they have turned internet searches and social media user’s feelings into a ranking of The Hills and The Hills New Beginnings stars based off of their popularity at the moment.
The Hills followed around the personal and professional lives of several young adults living in Los Angeles, which included Kristin Cavallari, Audriana Patridge, Heidi Montag, Whitney Eve Port, Spencer Pratt, Stephanie Pratt, and Brody Jenner. The show ran from 2006 to 2010 and then nearly a decade later, MTV decided to reboot the show with many of the same cast members and bringing on a few new faces. They added Brody Jenner’s “wife” Kaitlynn Carter, Mischa Barton from The O.C., and Pamela Anderson’s son Brandon Thomas Lee. Now that season 1 of the reboot has wrapped and MTV have confirmed that there will be a season 2 coming soon, fans can’t help but wonder who will be returning and who will not.

SEMrush put the least popular as #14. Heidi Montag Pratt. One of the OG stars of The Hills has not been able to sell the younger MTV fans and thus ranks the lowest in popularity. Next is #13. Frankie Delgado, #12. Jason Wahler, #11. Spencer Pratt - Heidi’s husband and the curator of most of the controversy and drama in the original series. It seems that although he’s still just as controversial on the reboot, fans aren’t as interested in his storyline as they were before. #10 Justin Bobby, #9. Whitney Port, one of the OG leads of The Hills. #8 Stephanie Pratt - It seems that regardless of the drama that she caused with her brother Spencer and his wife, it wasn’t enough to put her in the top spot.
#7 Kristin Cavallari, the OG of The Hills, is still very popular considering she’s not even on the reboot. #6 Brandon Thomas Lee - the son of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, who is a new cast member to The Hills: New Beginnings. #5. Lauren Conrad - the sweetheart of The Hills herself, seems to have maintained her popularity well, regardless of not returning to the show in 2019. #4. Audrina Patridge - with her very public and messy divorce, the OG Hills star has maintained popularity. #3. Mischa Barton - the former O.C. star and newcomer to The Hills franchise, her popularity went up 50% just weeks into the season. #2. Brody Jenner - With his famous Jenner family backing him, his divorce from Kaitlynn Carter, and now being linked to Victoria’s Secret model, Josie Canseco, it’s no wonder he’s at the top of the list. Then there is the top spot, #1. Kaitlynn Carter - her and Jenner opened up about their polyamorous relationship, their marriage that wasn’t legally binding, and their inevitable split on The Hills: New Beginnings, this newbie skyrocketed in popularity from the beginning of the season. She then was linked romantically with pop star Miley Cyrus and her popularity went up 1,922% since the beginning of the summer, propelling her way above longtime fan favorites - Conrad and Cavallari.
It seems that the new generation of The Hills viewers are beginning to love the newer characters and have less connection with the old characters and past drama. If it’s any indication as to who will be returning to season 2 of The Hills: New Beginnings, it would make the most sense that MTV would be bringing back Carter and Jenner, even if they aren’t together anymore. Fans will have to wait and see who the cast will be for season 2.
